Listener Question Of The Month

Listener Question: Your Listener Questions (We're Begging Now...)

Hey folks, This Tuesday, we'll be recording our 100th episode, and we really want your questions for us. As you're probably aware by now, we've switched our listener questions around, and instead of asking you one question, we'd like you to ask us questions.

They can be on anything - Fantastic Four, comics, geekery, us, or anything else. We'll veto anything too personal, but other than that, the floor is completely open.

Send your questions in to us to our e-mail address - fantastic4podcast@gmail.com - leave them in the comments below, or drop them to us on twitter, where we are @fantasticast.

Listener Question: Your Listener Questions (Reminder)

Hey folks, it's a shameless re-post of last Sunday's post. We're recording our 100th episode on September 16th, and we'd love to have a big stack of questions to answer throughout the show. So please, get them in to the e-mail address below in the next nine days so you can be a part of our 100th episode celebrations! If you've caught up with our most recent episode, you'll have heard us run through your answers to our most recent Listener Question. If you haven't listened to the latest episode, why not? Go listen now!

Now that we're all on the same page, we've launched a new Listener Questions. Sort of...

Instead of posing a question to our listeners and asking for responses, we've decided to mix things up a bit for the next few weeks. We want you to send us your questions for us to answer.

The questions can be on anything. Fantastic Four-related, comics related, questions about ourselves (although we'll politely decline to answer any questions that get too personal). We'd like to have a few in the bag for our 100th episode, only a few short weeks away, and we'll and answer a couple every episode as well until we launch our next question.

Please send your questions to fantastic4podcast@gmail.com or leave them in the comments below.

Listener Question: Are You Reading Fantastic Four?

Alex Ross Fantastic Four CoverWe've now hit volume 5 of the Fantastic Four, thanks to two relaunches in the last couple of years. Matt Fraction's run on both Fantastic Four and FF may have left many readers cold - personally speaking, whilst FF was an absolute riot, Fantastic Four alienated me around the time it revealed Skrulls infiltrating the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and never really got me back - but James Robinson and Leonard Kirk seem to have got their run off to a great start. Issue 6 is the current issue on the stands right now, beginning to tie-in with Original Sin and, if you believe certain rumours on the internet, setting up the removal of the Fantastic Four as a concept from the Marvel universe. With all of this in mind, we'd like to ask every single one of our listeners: Are you currently reading Fantastic Four? Is it in your pull list? If you just want to submit a yes/no answer, please do so, but if you would be able to expand on your reasons for buying or not buying the series, that would be great.

Listener Question Reminder: Your Favourite Non-Fantastic Four Fantastic Four Stories

Time is running out to get your responses in for our current Listener Question! We're still looking at your favourite stories, having asked for your favourite under-rated stories and your favourite issue that showcases the team.

This month, we want to know your favourite non-Fantastic Four Fantastic Four stories.

To clarify, we want to know your favourite stories from books featuring the Fantastic Four that aren't the core Fantastic Four title. Pretty much everything is fair game for this one. The main spin-offs (Strange Tales, Marvel Two-In-One, The Thing, Fantastic Force and FF), mini-series, guest-appearances, alternate continuities (Fantastic Five, Ultimate Fantastic Four, etc) and more.7

There's no limit to the number of stories you can submit, although for the sake of reading the e-mails when we review the feedback, try to keep your thoughts reasonably succinct - as we've proved over 80-odd episodes, reading out loud isn't as simple for us as it should be!

Send your feedback into fantastic4podcast@gmail.com or leave it in the comments below. You have until June 24th to respond.

LQOTM Reminder: Your Favourite Fantastic Four Issue

It's been nearly two months since we launched our most recent Listener Question of The Month, and we've had some great responses so far. We've let this one run a little long as our recording schedule has meant that we've not had time on our most recent episodes to cover any feedback. So, we're going to keep this one open for a couple more weeks. Keep your suggestions coming in, and we'll round up all the responses we've had to this question at the beginning of May.

And, just to remind you, here are the 'rules' for your submission:

The Fantastic Four, as a comic, has plenty of different identifiers. It's the first Marvel superhero comic as we know them today. It's a book about explorers. It's a book out discovery. It's a book about crazy, way-out-there concepts. It's a book about family. And I'm sure there are many more interpretations.

What we're looking for is your favourite issue that sums up the Fantastic Four as you see them. And I mean issue, not story arc. It could be because there's a moment or scene that encapsulates your view of the team. It could be that the entire issue sees the writer and artist completely on your wavelength with your view of the Fantastic Four.

LQOTM: Your Favourite Fantastic Four Issue (With Rules)

And… we're back! Following yesterday's episode where we finally dug through our mailbag and read our answers to the last Listener Question Of The Month, we've got another one for you! And, continuing a slightly irritating trend, there's not short, snappy version of the question. Ah well...

LQOTM: Your Feel-Good Fantastic Four Reading Experiences

On our latest episode (which has had its sound synchronisation fixed now - if you're listening to us and we keep talking over each other, head on over and replace your episode) we launched our latest Listener Question Of The Month. The Fantastic Four is a good comic. And I don't just mean in terms of quality - I mean in terms of its heart. At its very core, it's a book about a family, overcoming obstacles both domestic and, uh, intergalactic (and beyond). The best runs on the book remember this, and although dark things may happen, the heart of the book is never lost.

Speaking personally, I was thought that the Jonathan Hickman run had lost sight of this, especially in the immediate aftermath of Johnny's return in Fantastic Four #600. Both titles were wrapped up in Hickman's epic storytelling, and for a while, it felt like the story was more important than the characters. Hickman completely turned this around, and the final issues of both Fantastic Four and FF before the Marvel NOW relaunch were great reads that took the books back to their core.

A well-written, positive Fantastic Four book warms my heart, and there are several issues that I find very easy to return to when I need to feel good. So, my question to is this:

What are you feel-good Fantastic Four reading experiences?

LQotM Reminder:

On our latest episode, we launched our first Listener Question of the Month.

We rightly laud certain runs on the title - Lee/Kirby, Byrne, Waid/Wieringo, Hickman. But there are plenty of creators, stories and mini-series that don't necessarily get the attention that they deserve.

So, this month, we're asking you to give us your favourite FF stories that you think may have not got the attention that they deserve. You might be a fan of Len Wein and George Perez. You may think that there's something rarely seen in Tom DeFalco and Paul Ryan's time on the book. You might be a fan of Heroes Reborn, or feel that Paul Cornell's Fantastic Four: True Story mini-series somehow escaped attention.

Whatever your favourites are, do let us know. On one of our November episodes, we'll run down what's been nominated and the reasons why, and see if we can't put a bit of focus onto these stories.
